Man of Steel Christopher Reeve Dies at 52

Actor Christopher Reeve died on Sunday from a heart attack.

Known to many as the illustrious "Superman", Christopher Reeve who was also an inspirational paralysis spokesperson, died from a heart attack at Northern Westchester Hospital in New York.

Reeve's heart attack happened while he was undergoing an infection treatment. Reeve then went into a coma and passed away on Sunday.

In 1995, Reeve suffered a severe spinal cord injury after being thrown from a horse during an equestrian competition in Virginia. He was then confined to a wheelchair, but then became an inspiration to many others living with conditions like his. He utilized his celebrity status, by turning a famed actor into an advocate for stem cell research.

During Friday's Presidential debate, the topic of stem cell research was discussed and candidate John Kerry referred to Reeves as a "true American hero".

"He was an inspiration to all of us and gave hope to millions of Americans who are counting on the life-saving cures that science and research can provide," said the Massachusetts senator.

Dana, Reeve's wife, was very grateful for "the millions of fans around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."

His family will be accepting donations in his honor for The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, formed in 1999, to continue research and support on stem cell research. More information can be found on www.ChristopherReeve.org.
