Man Who Stole a Purse from Kirsten Dunst Given 4 Years

A man who looted a hotel in 2007, stealing items from actors Simon Pegg and Kirsten Dunst, was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison.

Dunst and Pegg were in New York City in 2007, filming scenes for How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, released in 2008. It was during this time that James Jimenez, a 36-year-old mechanic, stole multiple items including a purse belonging to Dunst and a cell phone belonging to Pegg from the Soho Grand Hotel. The purse alone, a Balenciaga bag, was valued at $2,000. This week, Jimenez was given a four-year prison sentence, reports UsMagazine.com.

The whole situation is not necessarily over, however. Jimenez’s attorney, Robert Parker, now claims he will “certainly build a case” against Dunst, whom he says lied in court. Jimenez and Parker had argued in court that Jimenez’s partner in crime, Jarrod Beinerman, took the items when he went to sell drugs to Dunst in her suite.

“She certainly didn't have to come to this trial and lie,” Parker said to the NY Daily News outside court. He cited an interview in which Dunst admitted to supporting marijuana legalization, an interview which the judge in Jimenez’s case called “irrelevant.”

Beinerman nevertheless plead guilty in 2008, and according to Fox News, was later issued a sentence of four and a half years behind bars.
