Mariah and Madonna Out sing the King

Mariah Carey and Madonna take over two of Elvis Presley's titles today with their new singles.

Elvis Presley may still hold the title as the King of Rock and Roll, but soon that may be the only title he's holding onto.

According to E! News, both Mariah Carey and Madonna have taken over some of the King's claims to fame. Until now, Elvis had set the record for having the most No. 1 singles by a solo artist. On Wednesday, Mariah set the new record with her single, "Touch My Body," off her new record E=MC2, which gave the singer her 18th No. 1 hit. The only other group with more No. 1 hits is the Beatles with 20.

Madonna's new single, "4 Minutes," made the record books for her 37th Top 10 single. Jumping 65 spots this week, "4 Minutes" settled at No. 3 on the charts. In 2005, Madonna had tied Elvis's record of 36 Top 10 hits with her single, "Hung Up."

Both Madonna and Mariah's singles entered the digital charts this week selling more than 200,000 digital copies apiece, according to E! News. This is the first time two singles have sold this many copies.

The only good news for the King is that he still holds the title for the most total weeks at No. 1. Even though Mariah is closing in on this with 78 weeks at the top, Elvis still holds the record at 80 weeks during his 30-year singing career.

Mariah's new album is scheduled to drop on April 15, and Madonna's Hard Candy comes out two weeks later.
