Mariah Carey Pursuing Position as ‘Idol’ Judge?

The singer is eagerly pursuing one of the open spots on the panel

On a list that has featured a multitude of candidates -- some legitimate and some not -- singing sensation Mariah Carey appears to be a name that might end up on the American Idol judging panel in 2011.

According to Access Hollywood, the soulful star is negotiating with Fox and the show’s producers to fill one of the spots left vacant by former judges Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres.

“She wants it,” one source said. “She’s seen what America’s Got Talent has done for [husband Nick Cannon] and thinks it will be a good career move.”

The source also said that Carey, who has worked with judging panel mainstay Randy Jackson in the past, would fit in nicely with the other judges.

“Randy and Mariah have great chemistry,” he said.

Carey’s husband, actor and host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Nick Cannon, also thought his wife would be a good choice for the show.

“Mariah Carey should be the next judge on American Idol cuz she’s the greatest singer of all time,” Cannon said.

A Carey signing would likely complete the panel, as the show reportedly inked Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler earlier this week.
