Mariah Tackles Quantum Physics With New Album
Mariah Carey's new album will be released on April 15. It is called E=MC2, a reference, of course, to the fact that Carey's contributions to the world are at the very least equal to Albert Einstein's.
Just as Einstein's e=mc2 formula gave us immeasurable breakthroughs in physics, Mariah Carey's version plans to give us the sensual single, "Touch My Body." Whereas Einstein contributed his theory of relativity, Carey gave us "Glitter." And though Einstein won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921, Mariah ultimately won our hearts. Not to mention some Grammys.
All kidding aside, though, Mariah Carey is justifiably one of music's best-selling singers, a pop music veteran, and an icon. Her voice truly has a power and range unmatched by any of today's singers. And though she was dropped in 2001 from Virgin Records following the poor reception to her semi-autobiographical movie "Glitter," as well as her highly publicized emotional breakdown, she made a strong comeback in 2005.
Now, in 2008, she plans to release her eleventh studio album, which features Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Will.I.Am, among others. The singer first announced her new album in October on the MTV show TRL, on which she also promoted her new perfume. According to eFlux Media, Carey explained that the creative process behind the perfume was similar to the process behind her music.
Great.
Carey has made some great albums along with some duds, but E=MC2 appears as promising a record as any. The only thing for fans to do now is turn on the radio and hope to hear the first single "Touch My Body," which debuted Tuesday on NY's Z100 radio station and will surely be played incessantly.
