Marilyn Monroe Pics Sell Big at Auction
Pictures taken of Marilyn Monroe for Vogue magazine fetched $146,500 at New York auction house Christie's, the Associated Press reports.
The collection of 36 photographs were taken the year she died and had a pre-sale estimate of $100,000 to $150,000. The photographer was Bert Stern.
The 1962 photo shoot was the last time professional images were taken of Monroe, says Christie's. She died later that year of a drug overdose. The photos were used in Vogue as a memorial.
The auction will continue on Wednesday and more than 100 Monroe images will be for sale.
Monroe items weren't the only high-profile pieces being sold. Four Helmut Newton photographs, titled "They're Coming, Paris (Naked and Dressed)," sold for a whopping $662,500.
The buyers were anonymous.
