Mark Brunett's "Shark Tank" is More of the Same Reality TV

The rich look to get richer, the poor are degraded.

Media mogul Mark Brunett received a star on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame last month. Brunett's new show "Shark Tank" premiers Sunday night. It is one of at least seven new shows he will be producing this year.

According to the LA Times, "Shark Tank" is a mix of "The Apprentice" and ABC's old "American Inventor." Entrepreneurs pitch their product to five potential investors. They include Barbara Corcoran - a real estate developer, Kevin Harrington – an infomercial king, Daymond John – of FUBU apparel, Robert Herjavec – an internet mogul, and Kevin O'Leary – a TV host.

According to the NY Daily News, presentations from people who have an idea but don't have enough money for its development or marketing are featured. The Washington Post reports embarassment is the key component of the show. This is the same formula for many reality shows including Brunett's "Survivor."

The sad thing about a show like this is the way it makes the desperation of current economic victims personalized.
