Marlee Matlin Writes New Book

The deaf, Oscar-winning actress has published a new book.

According to the New York Daily News, actress Marlee Matlin reported she was in a physically abusive relationship with actor William Hurt.

Matlin details the relationship in her new book, I'll Scream Later. The duo starred together in the 1987 film, Children of a Lesser God. Matlin, became the first deaf person to win an Oscar when she won for her role in the film.

Matlin was involved in a violent relationship with Hurt, describing one occasion where he attacked her while she screamed, "No, no, no. Please Bill, no."

She went on to describe the relationship to Nancy O'Dell of Access Hollywood, saying, "And if I had a split lip, or if . . . I mean, there were a lot of things that happened that were not pleasant."

Matlin was also addicted to cocaine at the time.

"I was so wrapped up in his world and my drugs," she said. "The drugs took over my life, took over my brain. I was 19 and I was alone in New York City. I had no friends there except my drug dealer."

Matlin said she didn't talk about the book with Hurt.

"I had no contact with him," she said. "Really, I had nothing to say to him. He knows what happened, I know what happened. We both were there."
