Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton to Star in 'The Thing'

Cast and director chosen for horror remake

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton have been confirmed as lead roles for the upcoming 'The Thing' remake.

The best-known version of the film is probably the 1982 John Carpenter version with Kurt Russel and Kieth David starring, or the 1952 The Thing From Another World, but they all stem from a short story from 1938 called "Who Goes There?"

According to Heat Vision, the plot of this movie is pretty similar to the most recent take on the idea, except that it is from the point of view of those who first discover the alien craft. Winstead plays a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica. When the creature inevitably attacks, she is forced to team up with hired blue-collar helicopter pilot Edgerton to stop the shape shifter.

Matthijs Van Heijningen will be directing this film, but no other details have been released as of yet.
