Mary J. Blige Creates Rapping Alter Ego

Blige says persona "Brook" helped her rap for the first time in her career.

Some fans of Mary J. Blige's latest album "The Breakthrough" say she's becoming a different person, but they probably aren't thinking of Brook, the persona Blige created in order to rap on her album and other special projects.

"Mary is nice, you know, intelligent," she explains. "Brook is crazy and ignorant and she don't care."

So when Busta Rhymes asked Blige to guest on his latest single "Touch It," she brought Brook along too, making her first debut as a featured rapper on someone else's track.

"Brook cut lose on the Bus record, she did her thing," says Blige. "Busta didn't just want Mary on it, he wanted Mary and Brook. So the calm one [rapping] is Mary, but the [wild] one is Brook.

Unfortunately "Touch It" has been overshadowed by controversy after a bodyguard was shot and killed on the video's New York set. Rhymes and his representation have yet to cooperate with the New York Police Department bearing witness to the crime, and there are still no suspects. Blige was not on the video set at the time of the shooting.

See Blige as "Brook" Tuesday on MTV's Total Request Live.
