Mary-Kate Olsen and Heath Ledger were only friends

According to Associated Press, Mary-Kate Olsen released a statement Friday about her relationship with deceased actor Heath Ledger. She stated he was a friend of hers and said his death is a terrible loss. She expressed her empathy for his family during this time.

Rumors about the two celebrities started after reports became public that Ledger's masseuse called Olsen several times upon her discovery of his body in his New York apartment. The masseuse called Olsen before she called paramedics to the scene. Olsen, who was in California at the time, ordered her private security to Ledger's apartment. They arrived at the same time as the paramedics.

New York Police Department investigators have said there is no need to interview or otherwise speak to Mary-Kate Olsen. Police interviewed everyone at the scene, which eliminated any reason to interview the actress. The cause of Ledger's death cannot be determined for another week until after the completion of toxicology tests.
