Massachusetts High School Sees 17 Teen Pregnancies

A high school's high pregnancy rate causes alarm, along with a rumored "pregnancy pact."

Gloucester High School in Massachusetts sees 17 girls pregnant, eFluxMedia.com reports.

There has been talk about a "pregnancy pact," where the young mothers have pledged to raise their children together.

None of these girls are over 16.

One of the fathers is claimed to be a homeless person, aged 24. Most fathers are in their 20s and could be charged for having sex with minors, eFluxMedia.com outlines.

Principal Joseph Sullivan told Time Magazine that the girls took several pregnancy tests at the school's clinic last October. The ones who got pregnant were apparently over the moon.

Not all agreed on the pact being a communal effort on behalf of the girls to get pregnant.

According to the local Eagle Tribune, School Superintended Christopher Farmer stated: "All we know was that there was a small group of girls who were not disappointed in the idea of being pregnant. I had never heard of any kind of communal effort that girls were trying to get pregnant."

Some blamed the parents for the happenings and others pointed their finger at the country's obsession with Hollywood, where teen pregnancies aren't uncommon and movies on the topic are frequently produced, such as the recently released Juno.
