Matt Damon Shows Support for Children in Darfur
According to People, Matt Damon, Thandie Newton, and other celebrities participated in a London photo shoot intended to bring attention to suffering children during "Global Day for Darfur" on April 13.
The photographs show celebrities destroying toys, which is meant to symbolize the destruction of childhood that is occurring among more than one million children in Darfur, Sudan, who grow up displaced and living in refugee camps, according to www.savedarfur.org.
"After the genocide in Rwanda we all shook our heads and said never again," said Damon, who was photographed destroying a dollhouse with a baseball bat. "Today, as killings mount in Darfur we need to make never again a priority and demand protection for the most vulnerable."
April 13 also marks the fifth anniversary of genocide in the region."If it had been my childhood that was under attack I would have expected help," said Newton, who was photographed blow-torching a Barbie doll. "Five years is five years too long."
