Mattel Creating Barbie & Ken Dolls Inspired by “Mad Men”

Ken and Barbie dolls will replicate characters from AMC’s hit TV series, “Mad Men.”

The New York Times has reported that the dolls will be styled based on four main characters from the show: Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks), Roger Sterling (John Slattery), Don Draper (Jon Hamm), and Betty Draper (January Jones).

The popular drama series debuted in 2007 and is based on the competitive, male dominated world of advertising during the 1960s.

However, some parents may not want their children to play with dolls that are based on a show that promotes heavy smoking, drinking and womanizing. That’s why the dolls will be part of a premium-price collector’s series for adults that Mattel calls the Barbie Fashion Model Collection. But don’t expect these dolls to have cigarettes, ashtrays and martini glasses as accessories.

The suggested retail price is $74.95 each and will be sold at specialty stores and on two Web sites: amctv.com and barbiecollector.com.
