In Forney, Texas, near Dallas, a contest for mayor of the day was won by 11-year-old Caroline Gonzales, a Justin Bieber fan whose first order of business on Tuesday was to rename Main Street after her idol. Just 48 hours later, though, the sign was stolen.

According to The Daily Mail, the sign was supposed to stay up through the weekend, but it disappeared Thursday morning. Gonzales’ father, Tony, told The Dallas Morning News that he had “never seen her so mad” when she heard the news.

Darren Rozell, the town’s real mayor, expressed disappointment with the event, according to The International Business Times.

"It may be someone's idea of a joke... But we're not going to leave this little girl's summer on a sour note," he said.

A new sign, which cost the town $20, was put up to replace the one that went missing.

The town also tried to contact Bieber to see if he would appear or at least make a statement, but all attempts proved unsuccessful.
