McAvoy Won't Star as Bilbo Baggins

The role of Baggins has yet to be announced.

It's time to put the James McAvoy being cast in the new Hobbit film rumors to bed.

Collider.com has a first hand account that McAvoy will not star in the films, saying, "It's not true, by the way, it's all Internet rumoring and nothing else I'm afraid. Sorry."

The Atonement star was referring to the ongoing speculation that he would star in the films as Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit films. The rumors, at least in part, have been spreading because many believe that he would be perfect for the role, but McAvoy apparently has decided against accepting the role because of the multi-movie commitment it would take as well as interest in different projects. Because, at this point, it is being reported that if the new Hobbit film does well, a sequel would be made.

Expect to see much more of McAvoy in the coming days when promoting his new film, Wanted, which also stars Angelina Jolie.
