McCain Picks Palin as Running Mate
Now that the Democratic National Convention ended with a bang, our attention shifts to the Republican; mainly who Senator John McCain will choose as his running mate. To our surprise, he selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. This is a surprise pick for everyone that is sure to shake up the race and to reinforce the notion that McCain is trying to be a reformer.
Palin was mayor of a small Alaskan town just two years ago. CNN reported McCain's pick after a private plane had touched down in Dayton, Ohio after traveling from the Last Frontier. Palin was a shocker as the two universal frontrunners for the VP spot were former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.
Palin is a risky venture as she is not entirely known and hasn't been tested on the national stage like other candidates. However, she has very impressive credentials for such a short time in office. Karl Rove commented on McCain's pick by saying, "It would be a clear sign from the McCain campaign that they were going to be making a very strong bid for the women whom they see up for grabs - both traditional, swing independent suburbanites and then the Hillary Clinton supporters who remain disillusioned."
Palin, in her two years of office, has in many cases made good on her promises of hopeful reform. She has watched as her constituents have made her one of the most popular governors in the country.
