After seven seasons of playing sexy surgeon Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsy is looking to add another Ph. D to his resume, this time in the supernatural.
Screen Rant reports that the Grey's doc with the luscious locks has been adamantly lobbying for the role of Marvel Comics' Dr. Strange.
"I'd love to play Dr. Strange," Dempsy told The L.A. Times.
And he's serious when he uses the L-word -- Dempsy went on to emphasize that he'd be down for the role in almost any capacity.
"It’d be a great TV show, especially for HBO or something like that," he said.
The man best-known as McDreamy has his doubts about doing another serial drama, but adds that the smaller seasons on networks such as HBO are "much better."
So who is this Dr. Strange and why hasn't he graced the big screen before?
As with most Marvel characters, Dr. Strange has an intriguing backstory. Created by Stan Lee in the early 1960s, Stephen Strange is an arrogant surgeon who injures his hands during an accident and goes into a mopey depression before stumbling upon the Ancient One and subsequently deciding to take up sorcery.
The lover of flamboyant capes has had minimal experience on the small screen, including a short-lived television series in the 1970s, but for the most part, he and his awesome hair have been confined to animated features and cameos in video games.
According to the L.A. Times, however, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted at a Dr. Strange project being developed and has reportedly hired Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to pen a script.
Dempsy, who took his first steps to breaking free of his ABC scrubs by taking on an action-packed role in this summer's Transformers: Dark of the Moon, said he's made his interest clear to Feige and the other powers at Marvel Studios.
"He knows what’s going on. There was stuff going on," Dempsy said. "I mean, it’s something that’s kind of out there and, you know, I’ve been looking at that. It would be a fun one to do."
