McMahon Dead at 86

Johnny Carson's sidekick died on Tuesday.

Ed McMahon, mainly known for being Johnny Carson's sidekick on the latter's show, died at a hospital on Tuesday.

According to San Francisco Chronicle, McMahon died at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center due to health problems. His wife and other family members were at his side at the time.

McMahon was first found selling vegetable slicers at New Jersey's Atlantic City boardwalk. His first job after that was the announcer on "Who Do You Trust?" in 1957.

NJ.com reports that McMahon then worked on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" for 30 years. Aside from this job, he also hosted "Star Search" and starred in "TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes," which he began working for in the 1980s. Additionally, he appeared on commercials for Philadelphia's Colonial Penn Life Insurance, which offers direct policy sales to people over 50.

McMahon supported Quinnipac University in Hamden years after his daughter graduated in the 1970s, Connecticut Post reports. The university named its mass communications center after him in 1993.
