Mel Gibson Expecting Eighth Child

Actor and director Mel Gibson confirmed his girlfriend's pregnancy on Monday night, during his appearance on NBC's Tonight Show. Gibson and girlfriend musician Oksana Grigorieva are having a child, which bumps up Gibson's total to eight, People magazine reports.

Host Jay Leno kicked off the show attempting to clear up a different rumor first. Leno reportedly questioned Gibson about his split with his wife, Robyn, of 28 years. According to People magazine, Gibson says he takes the blame for the divorce, and that he still admires and is friends with his ex-wife.

Leno proceeded to joke with Gibson, 53, about dating a younger woman, asking whether Grigorieva is 17 or 18 years old. Gibson reportedly responded that his girlfriend is nearly 40, and then confirmed the rumor regarding her pregnancy. "We're gonna have a child," he said, as quoted in the People magazine article.

A relentless Leno continued to tease Gibson, asking, "So that will make 29?" Gibson quickly corrected him, identifying the child as his eighth, People magazine reports. "I guess I'm Octo-Mel," he responded, as quoted in the article.

As Leno prepares to bid goodbye to the Tonight Show, the late-night show will feature many special guests like Gibson this week. On Friday night, Leno's final night as host of the show, his guest will be Conan O'Brien, his successor who is slated to assume the role of host on Monday, June 1.
