According to BBC News, the Ignacio Allende Prison in Veracruz, Mexico was visited with hundreds of protesters last night. The protest was because Gibson's movie shoot was rumored to be transferring the prisoners to other penitentiaries permanently and not just holding them while the movie is being shot.

Prisoner relatives comprised the majority of the group. They said they were protesting the possible transfer of their loved ones because it made visiting and giving them food impossible. The protest lasted all of Tuesday night.

According to The Associated Press, earlier in the month, Veracruz Gov. Fidel Herrera said part of the prison would be emptied in January. Gerardo Duran, the director of the prison, said the idea that prisoners would actually be transferred was an unsubstantiated rumor. He said the process of the clearing would begin in 2010 for the movie shoot.
