Mel Gibson's drunken driving conviction from a 2006 arrest was expunged Tuesday by California judge, Lawrence J. Mira.

Mel Gibson was eligible to have his drunk driving convictions erased from his record after he completed probation and maintain a clean driving record.

In 2006 Gibson was arrested in Malibu when he admitted to driving 87 miles per hour with an open bottle of tequila. When police took his blood alcohol level he had 0.12 over the legal limit of 0.08.

At the time of the incident Gibson pled no contest and was sentenced to three years of probation, fined more than $1,300, was ordered to attend more than 11 months of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and had to enroll in an alcohol abuse program for three months.

Gibson's 2006 arrest gained media attention not just for his DUI charge but also for an anti-Semitic statement made to the arresting officer at the time. The officer was Jewish and Gibson later apologized for his remarks.
