Mel Gibson's Rehabilitation Going Well, Says Judge

Director completes his mandatory AA attendance sentence.

Mel Gibson-cured? That's what the judge is saying, anyway. Malibu Judge Lawrence J. Mira praised the actor for going above and beyond in his treatment, according to E! News. Gibson's attorney, Blair Berk, was on hand in the courtroom on Thursday to present Mira with proof that his client had completed the requirements of his rehabilitation. Berk, by the way, is the attorney handling Lindsay Lohan's ever-growing collection of legal woes.

Gibson's legal check-ups stem from a now infamous drunken driving incident last summer. On July 28th of last year, the Oscar winner was nabbed doing 87 mph in a 45-mph zone. In his boozed-up state, Gibson proceeded to launch into a sexist and anti-Semitic rant that made headline news. He registered a .12 blood-alcohol level that night. The following month, Gibson submitted a no-contest plea in answer to the misdemeanor DUI charge. The "Lethal Weapon" actor received fines, three months probation, and mandatory attendance of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Gibson was to attend the AA meetings five times a week for four and a half months. On Thursday, Mira ruled that any additional AA meetings Gibson may attend will be entirely voluntary, reports E! News.

Thursday's courtroom session was to be Gibson's final progress report. However, the 51-year-old "Braveheart" star is due back in court on February 15th, 2008, for another hearing.
