Melissa Etheridge: No Marriage = No Taxes

With the passing of Proposition 8, the singer says she will no longer be paying her state taxes.

Grammy award winning rocker Melissa Etheridge is striking back against the passing of Proposition 8 by California residents by announcing that she won't be paying her state taxes, reports USAToday.com.

As she is newlywed to partner Tammy Lynn Michaels, you could say that the constitutional ban on gay marriage hits close to home and that she is rightfully just a bit upset.

In protest, the singer stated on her Web site, MelissaEtheridge.com, "Okay. So Prop 8 passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think that I am a second class citizen. . . ."

She continued, "Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books."

This is all well and good according to Etheridge who went on to say she had better things she could be doing with her money anyway.

"Okay, cool I don't mean to get too personal here but there is a lot I can do with the extra half a million dollars that I will be keeping instead of handing it over to the state of California. . . ."

Oh Snap!

Are you serious? Mrs. Etheridge, you (and the gay community) have a right to be pissed, but going to jail for tax evasion is not going to solve anything.
