Meyer's Book Not Being Published

Midnight Sun will not be coming out as planned.

Sad news, twilighters, the Los Angeles Times reports that a note on author Stephenie Meyer's Web site Thursday says the author's plan to retell the story of "Twilight" through vampire Edward's eyes is a no go.

To blame is the illegal distributing of the unfinished draft for the story over the Internet without Meyer's knowledge or permission. She's rightfully none to happy about it.

"If I tried to write 'Midnight Sun' now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on 'Midnight Sun,' and so it is on hold indefinitely," said Meyer.

For fans wishing to see the draft of the work that would have been, it is on the author's site, along with the original first chapter that was originally on the site to hold fans over until its release, at http://stepheniemeyer.com/.

This legal release of the draft comes with a word of caution from Meyer who says, "The writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes." The only reason it is even up, according to Meyer, is to end confusion for the fans.

"I rather my fans not read this version. . . . It was only an incomplete draft. . . . But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available. . . . I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place."
