Michael Jackson Auction Cancelled
Michael Jackson's memorabilia auction, scheduled to start on April 22 and end on April 25, was cancelled this morning, although an agreement was made to extend the exhibition of the items through April 25. The auction was supposed to occur at Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Jackson's representative, Tohme R. Tohme, filed to end the sale with the Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to the L.A. Times, "A separate statement from Tohme said that 'there was so much interest from so many of Jackson's fans that instead of putting the items in the hands of private collectors, Dr. Tohme and Julien's Auctions have made arrangements that will allow the collection to be shared with and enjoyed by Jackson's fans for many years to come.'" The statement is entirely unclear as to the true intentions of Jackson's representative.
Julien's auctions, the auction promoter, invested $2 million in the sale. Julien, the CEO, has said, "We're most certainly happy about the agreement. Sure, I'm disappointed that the auction is not going to take place. But I'm happy that the exhibition will continue."
