Michael Jackson Estate Sues Charities
Michael Jackson never seems to be able to stay out of the headlines, even after his untimely death. The latest news in the Jackson world is of a truly tasteless scam.
Michael Jackson's attorneys are suing The Heal the World Foundation and United Fleet, two California charities that have been using Jackson's likeness and catchphrases to scam fans into donating money, according to ABC News online.
The two charities are claiming to have ties to Michael Jackson, but the Jackson estate says they have no affiliation with the corporations. Jackson did once have a charity he named Heal the World Foundation in the early 90s, but he had since disbanded it.
John McClain, a music executive, and John Branca, an attorney for Jackson, filed a lawsuit in federal court over trademark infringement and unfair competition among other complaints. The lawsuit aims to block the two charities from using Jackson's name or catchphrases on their websites or merchandise.
