Michael Jackson Memorial Service Lottery Closed

1.6 million await their fate.

Today at 6 p.m. PT, registration closed for the Michael Jackson memorial service lottery. The number of entries reached 1.6 million, but only 17,500 ticket wristbands are available for the highly anticipated event.

Although 17,500 tickets are available, only 11,000 people will be randomly chosen to attend the event at the Staples Center. The remaining 6,500 chosen will be given admittance to watch the King of Pop's memorial service at the Nokia Theatre, reports ABC News.

"We will notify those selected that they have a ticket on Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.," said Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG, which owns the downtown center. "Those who were randomly drawn will receive a code to go to Ticketmaster.com and will then be provided with the specifics of where to go."

For the fans that are not so lucky to attend the event, ABC News will broadcast the memorial live at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 7.

Los Angeles officials are expecting 700,000 people to be in the area Tuesday. Jackson's memorial could become one of the most widely attended memorial services in United States history.
