Michael Jackson Museum Plans Move Ahead
The town of Gary, Indiana, which is Michael Jackson’s hometown, is donating 300 acres of land to fuel the project of opening a Michael Jackson memorabilia museum. His father, Joe Jackson, endorsed the project and said, “This is something that my family and Michael have always wanted.”
The creation of the museum is expected to cost $30 million, but the mayor of Gary, Rudy Clay, believes it will be the magnet of the town, bringing people in from all over the world and making $150 million for the town in profits annually.
Building a Michael Jackson museum was Michael’s idea, and he went to Gary in 2003 to discuss the plans, but nothing has happened yet.
Mr. Clay said money for the building will “be derived from donations and private investors.”
Some residents are unsure if the project will ever be completed, but hope it will because the town has been deteriorating in the past years. However, the hopeful start of the project is scheduled for next year.
