Michael Jackson's Family Has No Say in Rehearsal Footage Bid
The announcement of the auctioning off of Michael Jackson's "This is It" rehearsal footage comes with the announcement that the Jackson family will not have any say in who will be given rights, says MSNBC.com.
AEG, the concert promoter that is receiving bids for both film rights and broadcasting rights, is currently still in negotiation with studios and networks. According to the Deadline Hollywood Daily, movie rights are reportedly reaching $50 million, while television rights stand at $10 million.
MSNBC.com says that Jackson's estate will benefit from any financial successes associated with the deal. The family however is not involved with the deal since no family members were granted administrators of Jackson's estate.
Katherine Jackson was denied her request to become a third administrator for the estate by a Los Angeles Superior Court on July 13, leaving the "King of Pop's" longtime business partners John Branca and John McClain in charge of any new business agreements that are related to the estate. This ruling leaves the Jackson family out of deciding what should happen to the footage, says MSNBC.com, leaving the family's emotions out and moving the process along.
