Michelle Williams has won the coveted role of Glinda the Good Witch in Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful. Williams will join James Franco as the titular wizard, Mila Kunis as Theodora the Witch of the West, and Rachel Weisz as Evanora, an evil witch.

Casting the role of Glinda was delayed due to differences in choices between director Sam Raimi and Disney. Raimi insisted on casting Hilary Swank, but the studio had been pushing for Williams, The Vulture reports.

Williams recently appeared in Blue Valentine and has finished My Week With Marilyn, in which she plays Marilyn Monroe.

The plot involves Franco's character finding himself being transported into the magical land of Oz via a hot air balloon and having to face the witches.

Variety reports that filming for Oz: The Great and Powerful starts in July, and the movie is likely to be released as early as fall 2012.
