Michelle Williams might have shown off her sexy side on the cover of GQ, but the recent Golden Globe winner is insisting that she was very aware of keeping the image of being sexualized away from her successful career.
Williams started off as sexy teen Jen Lindley on Dawson’s Creek, and vowed not let her career steer down that same direction.
"I think because my character on Dawson's Creek was sexy... sexualized... sexual... I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly," she explained, The Press Association reports.
She went on to say, "When you play sexy you're kind of playing just for men. That is something you have to police and turn it on its head. I mean, sexuality has been a part of my work, obviously... Blue Valentine... but it's never been sexy. It hasn't been beautiful."
The My Week With Marilyn star also spoke about her daughter, Matilda, not getting to have any siblings close to her age.
“I really wanted, and I really expected or imagined, that Matilda would have siblings that were close to her age. I wanted that for her. But I couldn't make that happen. And now that she's six that isn't even a possibility any more," she said in the GQ interview, Us Magazine reports.
She said now that the possibility is out of her grasp, she has shut out the feelings. “So something that was making me feel impatient, that's been removed. For whatever reason, that's not our luck, or our path,” she said.
