Mickey Rourke Still Set To Appear At Wrestlemania 25
According to Pro Wrestling Insider, actor Mickey Rourke is still scheduled to appear at Wrestlemania 25 in Houston.
Originally, the talk was that Rourke would face WWE superstar, Chris Jericho, in a wrestling match at the event. Rourke recently won a Golden Globe award for best actor for his role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson in the movie The Wrestler. Rourke is currently in the best actor race at the Academy Awards for the same role.
In an article last week from the Associated Press, the story was that Rourke had apparently dropped out. But PWI reports that WWE majority shareholder, Vince McMahon, made a statement to E! Online: "I am pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE Superstars who support him and the film in which he stars, The Wrestler."
This statement sheds doubt that the planned match between Jericho and Rourke is officially off. In the famous Wrestlemania 11 main event in 1995, Lawrence "LT" Taylor took on Bam Bam Bigelow. In the time leading up to the bout, Bigelow and LT denied that they would fight.
A strong possibility exists that Rourke has dropped out is part of the storyline to work the mainstream media and press into thinking it won't happen while Rourke pursues his Oscar hopes.
Following the Academy Awards, Rourke could possibly be re-inserted into WWE storylines and booking in order to face Chris Jericho on April 5.
