Mickey Rourke as a Wrestler For Real?
Mickey Rourke has gotten critical acclaim for his recent movie "The Wrestler," but is he ready to hit the ring in real life?
At the SAG Awards this past Sunday, Rourke revealed that he will be participating in WWE's "Wrestlemania 25" in Houston this April, says MSNBC.
Originally, the WWE distanced itself from the film. A spokesman said that the way they're portrayed in the film is very different from what the company stands for today. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was given a private screening of the film, and he hated it, according to wrestlingtruth.com.
But now that Rourke won a Golden Globe and the movie is an Academy Award nominee, the company's tune has changed.
Rourke told Access Hollywood, "The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it. I said, 'I want to.'"
He also seems to have an opponent already staked out, as his next words were, "Chris Jericho, you better get in shape. Because I'm coming after your ass."
