Microsoft Places a Bid to Buy Yahoo

In the attempt to compete with rival company Google, Microsoft has placed a bid to absorb the second largest search engine market for nearly 45 billion dollars.

In a shocking development today, Microsoft has placed a nearly 45 billion dollar unsolicited bid to buy Yahoo.com according to multiple sources.

The software giant's attempt to purchase the once dominant search engine company to compete with Google, a company that has in recent years replaced Yahoo as the dominant search engine, is the second in a year. And this time most figure that Yahoo will accept Microsoft's bid.

By purchasing Yahoo, Microsoft would be combining the world's largest two search engines (MSN being the other) to bring their 33 percent share of the U.S. search market (according to comScore Media Matrix) directly in competition with the reigning search giants.

While the media tends to look years in advance, one must remember that this deal has yet to even be accepted by Yahoo. And even if it were, the U.S. and European antitrust regulators still have to examine the bid in great detail.

While this is the case, analysts have said that there is likely no unfair competition occurring in this takeover, therefore it appears at this point in time, that Microsoft's take over of Yahoo is inevitable.
