Mike Huckabee Drops Out

John McCain, having eclipsed 1,200 delegates, will be the Republican nominee.

Mike Huckabee has dropped his bid for the presidency.

The former Arkansas Governor made his announcement after John McCain reached the amount of delegates that guarantees the Arizona Senator the nomination, with wins in Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island Tuesday night.

Huckabee had taken the role of second-fiddle to McCain in recent weeks, after Mitt Romney had dropped out of the race.

The former preacher put together a great run in recent months, especially considering his lack of experience and resources. A great deal of Huckabee's success can be attributed to his outgoing personality, a trait that most of the Republican candidates do (did) not possess.

The high point of the Huckabee campaign undoubtedly came in the form of a convincing win in Iowa, which had some pundits predicting he would win the Republican nomination.

These pundits were, obviously, not correct, but the political world might not have heard the last of Huckabee.

John McCain has yet to announce a vice presidential candidate, a role for which Huckabee seems to be a prime contender.
