'Mike & Molly' Recap: Season 2, Ep. 7

JM Cornwell

Carl’s grandmother yells up the stairs at him. He's going to be late if he doesn't get a move on. Mike is tired of Carl using the car horn as a snooze alarm, but he does accept Nanna's offer of a cup of tea while he waits.

Carl was up late the night before. Nanna tells Mike Carlton walked in at 3 a.m. with the devil’s grin on his face and stripper glitter between his teeth. Carl peeks down the stairs to say he’ll be a moment longer. He’s moisturizing – with Nanna’s face cream on his ashy elbows. Nanna’s not happy, but neither is Carl. His grandmother uses his razor on her wiry chin hairs. Oh, the joys of family.

Nanna wants Mike to find some nice girl for Carlton. Mike says Carl is just sowing his wild oats. Nanna’s tired of Carlton’s wild oats, so tired she’s going to sew him in his bed sheets and beat him with a bag of oranges if he don’t get busy and find himself a nice girl. Mike agrees. Carl bounces down the stairs griping at Nanna and Mike for making him late with their chit-chat.

Mike’s driving because Carl is tired and all Carl can talk about is the stripper that gave him a lap dance – several lap dances – the night before. He thinks it’s love. She gave him three lap dances and only charged him for two, and it wasn’t because she couldn’t do the math. She was Rain Man in a G-string the way she counted up her tips at the end of the night. Mike asks Carl if he’s wasting his loving nature on . . . skanks. Just because a girl takes her clothes off for money and shakes her butt in your face, she’s not a skank, according to Carl. No, but it is one of the warning signs Mike tells him. Carl could consider a nice church going girl. Uh, uh, not for Carl. He’s had enough of those church girls rocking his world on Saturday and come Sunday repenting in church and naming names.

Lunch time at the café, Mike needs a reminder to get a tuna melt for Molly (she asked). It’s important to let your woman know you’re thinking about her – and for her. Just then a pretty girl walks in wearing a lab coat and Carl is interested. So is Samuel, who gives Carl the lowdown on all her vital statistics (name, age, previous home, what she does, where she works, etc.), but she’s not buying – or dating at the moment. Carl says she’s not his type, damaged goods. She’s either divorced with a bunch of cats or one of her legs is aluminum.

Mike and Carl go by the school to drop off Molly’s lunch still talking about the woman in the café. Mike and Molly are just too cute and it makes Carl sad because Mike has a girl. It’s beautiful and makes Carl sad.

It’s time to go to the optometrist’s office to give Carl a chance to meet the girl from the café. Mike warns Carl not to talk – or brag – and he might just get a date. Mike’s supposed to have trouble driving at night. Carl wants to show off. Mike goes into his spiel and Carl goes into his usual show and tell with not much show and too much tell. The girl thinks Carl is a jerk, and he’s acting like one, and she is not interested. Carl goes into big jerk mode and goes off on the girl.

Carl is in a bad mood. He thinks she embarrassed him in public. Mike's trying to be calm and supportive and Carl keeps going off on Mike. He thinks Mike should worry about Molly working late nights every night instead of getting up in his business.

Victoria and Joyce are eating dinner and discussing their days at work when Mike comes in complaining about the hemorrhoid with a badge, his partner. Mike is angry to find out that Molly is working again. He’s been supportive. He’s been understanding and yelling. Victoria and Joyce do their best to get out of Mike’s angry picnic he’s fixing for Molly.

Carl’s watching TV and not going to the strip club. That makes Nanna suspicious. Carl wonders if he’ll ever find a really good woman. Those kind of girls don’t go with him. Nanna tells him he can’t shake the whore tree and expect an angel to fall out, and she has some advice for Carl to show a woman the kind of man he can be – and ease into things.

Mike brings a lovely picnic dinner to Molly at work. The wine is out since it’s not allowed on campus. Sex in the teacher’s lounge is out, too. Molly always has sex with the janitor there at lunch time. Molly apologizes for all the overtime. Mike’s missing her – and he can’t talk about his day to them. It’s like talking to a bottle of wine and a bong. Molly promises that tomorrow night will be THE night for dessert and agrees to have the picnic dinner with Mike after all.

Carl goes back to the optometrist’s store to talk to the girl. He apologizes for being a jerk. She explains that she isn’t interesting in dating right now, but an apology for his nasty comments would be nice. Carl admits to being intimidated by women like her. She thought he was stuck up but Carl keeps putting his foot in his mouth and admits he still lives with his grandmother. She finds him kind of nice.

Victoria and Joyce deliver a message to Mike, sniggering the whole time. “Now serving dessert in the teacher’s lounge.” Mike excuses himself to go upstairs and finds Molly asleep holding a rose. Mike kisses her, takes the rose, and tucks her in. Maybe next time.
