MIllionaire Dominates
Slumdog Millionaire is the movie of the hour. Out of ten nominations, the movie won eight. It seems that everyone's prediction of the movie's success was right, as it dominated the only other movie that had nearly the same amount of nominations, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which won only 3 of the 13 for which it was nominated.
Slumdog was awarded for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematographer, Best Score, "Jai Ho," which won for Best Song; Sound Mixing, Film Editing, Directing and the biggest honor of the night, Best Picture. The cast in its entirety was at the awards show, and climbed up on stage with Christian Colson, the movie's producer. The movie, set in Mumbai, is about an 18-year-old boy named Jamal, who competes on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. During the course of the show, and with every question asked, Jamal's (played by newcomer Dev Patel) life experiences are revealed, each one relevant to the topic at hand. According to Rollingstone.com, "The no-bull honesty of Slumdog Millionaire hits you hard."
Looks like Rolling Stone aren't the only ones who thought Slumdog Millionaire was a heavy hitter.
