Minnesota Twins Sign Royals' Ron Mahay
The Minnesota Twins have signed left-handed pitcher Ron Mahay, the team announced on Saturday.
Previously a player for the Kansas City Royals, Mahay, 38, was designated for assignment Wednesday and was released two days later. He agreed to the contract on Friday. While with the Royals, he held a 4.79 ERA in 41 appearances.
Mahay is expected to play with the team as it takes on the Texas Rangers on Saturday. Mahay will wear a No. 37 uniform.
The Twins designated right-handed R. A. Dickey, 34, for assignment to make room for the new pitcher. Dickey held a 4.62 ERA in 35 appearances for the Twins during this season.
Coming in at second place in the division, the Minnesota team began Saturday 4½ games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers. The Twins have won 8 out of their last 10 games.
In addition to Mahay, the Twins have added three other players over the last month.
