Mischa Barton Speaks Out About Her Hospital Stay

Over a month after her hospitalization, Mischa Barton finally is speaking out about what instigated the incident.

On the Manhattan set of her new show "The Beautiful Life," Mischa Barton cleared up rumors about her stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on July 15.

Speaking with Time Out New York, Barton said, "I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once."

Shortly before beginning work on her new CW series, Barton had surgery to remove her four wisdom teeth. The actress described her surgery as "terrible," and the recovery was just the beginning of Barton's issues.

Since Barton was working, she could not use painkillers to ease the pain from the surgery and the pain compounded her stress. Although Barton said she did not experience a nervous breakdown, she did hit "rock bottom."

Now Barton describes herself as "really in control." However, the media scrutiny did not help Barton's recovery.

She said, "The funny thing is, if all this happened in New York, no one would care. New York lets you be who you are, and people aren't as judgmental. I'm so glad to be back here."
