Mischa Barton Under Psychiatric Hold

Former "O.C." star Mischa Barton has been placed under an "involuntary psychiatric hold" Access Hollywood is reporting.

According to Access Hollywood, Barton, 23, is being held at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles until further notice.

Barton called the police from her home at 3 p.m. Wednesday with a health problem, LAPD Officer April Harding confirmed to People magazine.

"We assisted her with a medical issue and removed her from her home," Harding said.

Officer Harding added that the ordeal did not involve paramedics and no arrests were made. Due to confidentiality laws she was not able to disclose details regarding Barton's condition.

Barton's rep, Craig Schneider, told People magazine that the LAPD were called upon to protect Barton from the media while being escorted to the doctor.

Barton, who is set to star in the CW television show "The Beautiful Life" this fall, was charged with DUI and marijuana possession last year.
