Miss California-Or Not?
For those who were waiting for the latest Miss USA drama, here it is. Miss California and runner-up Miss USA, Carrie Prejean, has angered many by her response to Perez Hilton's question of what she thought of legalizing gay marriage. Now, according to thehuffingtonpost.com, the pageant queen has aligned herself with the National Organization for Marriage.
Honestly, let's take a step back. Even though people might not agree with Prejean about her opinion, she still deserves some respect. She wasn't hateful, and she didn't say that homosexuals don't deserve rights. She was honest and shared what she believed, and said it without trying to offend anyone. She was classy, and I think that people should respect her opinion, even if they don't agree with her.
Now it seems that Perez Hilton harbors an extreme dislike for her, calling her out of her name on one of his blogs. Carrie Prejean has a right to her opinion as much as Hilton does; as much as you or I do.
I spent some time looking at the comments on Perez's page, and there were people saying that she "shouldn't be spreading the hate." What hate? All she did was state her opinionof which she has the right, according to the first amendmentand moved on. The fact that Hilton even asked her this question was wrong. He put her on the spot, and he should have known it would be a hot button topic.
To attack someone for being honest is wrong, and I think that if we continue down this road, we'll be in big trouble.
