Miss NJ Blackmailed

Someone wants Miss New Jersey to resign or else private photos of her will be released.

An anonymous person is threatening to make public personal pictures of Miss New Jersey if she refuses to relinquish her crown. But the beauty queen will not give in.

"It would certainly be easier for me to simply succumb to these unlawful and immoral threats, and quietly disappear," Amy Polumbo told reporters Thursday.

Polumbo's lawyer, Anthony Caruso, said that Polumbo, her family, and Miss New Jersey Education Foundation officials began receiving packages last week containing photographs. The pictures show Polumbo with friends and were likely posted years ago on a private website. The sender demanded a resignation by Friday.

"I don't think the photos are that bad," Caruso said.

Miss New Jersey is set to compete in the next Miss America competition. Officials from the Miss America Organization said it was up to New Jersey pageant officials to deal with the blackmail. The state competition officials are on Polumbo's side, helping her fight back.
