While they will not be hosting, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and ABC released a joint statement Friday announcing that the Muppets’ Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog will be presenting at the 84th Academy Awards on Feb. 26.

In the announcement, the Academy stated that it will be the fifth time the Muppets will make an appearance at the Oscars. The song “Man or Muppet,” which was featured in their 2011 film, The Muppets, was one of the two songs nominated for Best Song. The Academy describes Kermit and Miss Piggy as, “undeniably still one of the world’s most celebrated Hollywood power couples.”

According to The Wrap, ABC, which is broadcasting the awards this year, made the first announcement before the Academy, which was a first. The two later issued a joint press release, another first.

While it will be nice to see the Academy recognize the Muppets, it is disappointing to know that they will not be performing “Man or Muppet.” The other nominated song, which comes from the hit animated film, Rio, will not be performed either. However, The Washington Post reports that Cirque du Soleil will actually perform at the awards. Cirque, which last performed at the Oscars in 2002, will perform to music written by Danny Elfman.

Also not performing at the Oscars is Uggie the dog, whose scene-stealing role in The Artist won him a Golden Collar Award earlier this week.

Miss Piggy and Kermit join the list of presenters which includes Halle Berry, Bradley Cooper, Ben Stiller, Tom Hanks, Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.
