A contestant from Venezuela won the Miss Universe pageant for the second year in a row.

Miss Venezuela was named winner of the 2009 Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas, the Associated Press reports.

Stefania Fernandez, 18, was crowned Sunday night, becoming the second consecutive Miss Universe to hail from Venezuela. Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, was the runner-up.

The event, that aired on NBC, was hosted by Billy Bush, co-anchor of "Access Hollywood," and Claudia Jordan, former Miss Rhode Island USA. Judges included actor Dean Cain and supermodel Valeria Mazza.

Miss China, Wang Jingyao, was named Miss Congeniality, a distinction voted on by the other contestants, and Miss Thailand, Chutima Durongdej, won Miss Photogenic, which is decided by online voters.

According to MSNBC.com, the show also featured performances from Flo Rida, Heidi Montag, David Guetta and Kelly Rowland. It was Montag's first live performance.

Miss USA, Kristen Dalton, was included in the top 10 of the 83 contestants but did not make it to the final group of 5, asked to answer questions from the judges.
