Miss Virginia Claims Miss America Title
Waving in disbelief and sheer happiness to "There She Is, Miss America," Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron accepted the title of Miss America 2010.
The 5'4" tall 22-year-old from Virginia Commonwealth University won the competition against 53 other contestants last night in the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
The broadcast journalism student has competed in pageants since the age of 14. The desire to hopefully one day become crowned Miss America was inspired when Miss Virginia 2003 Nancy Redd paid a visit to her school.
Cameron won over the judges with her rendition of Beyonce's Dreamgirls song, "Listen." When asked about the continuing problem of childhood obesity, she replied, "We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little."
Along with the perks of being Miss America, the winner receives a $50,000 scholarship and takes part in a year-long campaign representing the organization. The competition's runner up, Miss California Kristy Cavinder, won a $25,000 scholarship
The new Miss America boldly claimed, "I hope to gain inspiration, I hope to gain momentum so that when this 365 days is over, I can shoot through the moon."
