Models too skinny for runway?

Great debate taken place on whether or not runway models are too skinny.

It has been said it is up to the designers to say what size the model they use will be. However when the model's size causes health risks or death, some sort of action may need to take place.

The mayor of Milan is trying to ban models with less than 18 percent body mass to walk the runways. Just last month top Uruguayan model Luisel Ramos complained of feeling ill while stepping off the runway. She then collapsed and died of heart failure. She had been recently informed by her modeling agency that she needed to lose weight even though she was already skinny.

Today, there is much talk on what should be done about these ultra skinny catwalk models.

Stuart Rose from The British Fashion Council believes the Milan mayor is overacting about model's weight. He believes the models are healthy and doesn't believe a designer would use a model that wasn't.

Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary in London begs to differ with Rose. She believes this is a major issue with young girls that see the skinny models and think that is healthy and ideal. Jowell doesn't want girls to think they will have fame and fortune if they starve themselves.
