Monaghan to Star in 'FlashForward'

Dominic Monaghan will join the cast of "FlashForward."

Dominic Monaghan, known for his roles in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and television series "Lost," has signed on to star in "FlashForward."

According to Associated Press, "FlashForward" is a sci-fi drama about the world suffering from a blackout and its population seeing visions of the future that may come true. Also signed on to join the cast are Courtney B. Vance and Sonya Walger. The show will premiere on Sept. 24.

Hollywood Reporter said "FlashForward" will air on ABC, the same channel that plays "Lost." ABC has already been promoting the show during "Lost" before being picked up in May. The series, which is based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel, will also star Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Brian F. O'Byrne, Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton and Peyton List.

Monaghan said he will not return to "Lost" after his character, Charlie, died, E! Online reports. Now, "I want to play someone who is the opposite of Charlie," Monaghan said about joining the cast for the new series. ["Flash Forward's" Simon] "is everything that Charlie wasn't."
