More Legal Trouble for Mischa Barton
Continuing the streak of personal and professional misfortune that has plagued her since her departure from The O.C. in 2006, Mischa Barton is being sued by M.R.A. Realties for skipping out on over $21,000 in rent.
The landlord of Barton’s New York City apartment spoke to the UK Mirror on Thursday, quoting her rent at $7,000 a month and reporting that she was three months behind on payments for her trendy Tribeca pad.
The actress relocated from Los Angeles last September to star in The Beautiful Life, which was canceled by The CW after just two episodes. However, Barton is set on establishing herself within Manhattan’s entertainment elite, and appears to have no immediate plans to return to Hollywood. She is currently guest-starring in Law & Order: SVU as a prostitute, and has been photographed on set in New York City dressed in colored tights and a floral dress reminiscent of her off-screen wardrobe choices.
The M.R.A lawsuit follows a string of well-publicized mishaps, including a DUI arrest in 2007, a stint in rehab for substance abuse, and a mental breakdown last year that landed Barton in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on involuntary psychiatric hold.
Reps for Barton had no immediate response, but an inside source reports, "People close to her were hoping [The Beautiful Life] would get her back on track. But it looks like she's going to need yet another chance."
