Morgan Freeman Divorces Wife of 24 Years

Even from a Memphis, Tennessee hospital, Morgan Freeman is still making news. Just days after a serious car accident that left him with a broken arm and elbow, the New York Daily News is reporting that the actor is in the process of divorcing his wife, Myrna Colley-Lee. According to the Daily News, Colley-Lee and Freeman dated for eight years before they wed. They have been married for twenty-four years. During that time, the actor won acclaim for several supporting roles before winning an Oscar in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby. The divorce proceedings were confirmed by Freeman's business partner, Bill Luckett, in an Access Hollywood interview. He also stated that the pair had been separated since December.

Freeman has famously led a rather private life. He does not live in Hollywood, but in Mississippi, where he and Luckett are co-owners of a blues club called Ground Zero. His recent accident occurred on a rural highway along the Mississippi Delta. According to MTV news, just before midnight on Monday, Freeman's car flipped several times before landing in a ditch that had filled with water after large amounts of rain in the area. Freeman's only passenger was a woman named Demaris Meyer. It is unclear why the two were travelling together, but MTV reports that Meyer is also friends with Myrna Colley-Lee.
